Guest Speaker Johanna Lemke “Enemy Under Our Roof” A Childhood Memoir from the Nazi-occupied Netherlands 1940 – 1945 |
“My friends said a bomb could kill me or I might starve to death. They said my father could be dragged away to the enemy’s concentration camps. But they were wrong.” The truth will surprise you! Johanna will be reading excerpts from her graphic and moving memoir, “Enemy Under Our Roof”. With the help of thirty informative Second World War slides, Johanna will recount some of her childhood experiences in Hengelo, The Netherlands, during its Nazi occupation. |
Johanna is a graduate of Ottawa Teachers’ College. After eleven years of teaching school in both Lyn and Ottawa, she took writing courses at Algonquin College and the University of Ottawa. At Carleton University, she studied Children’s Literature as part of her combined English/German major and won a Senate Medal for her efforts.
The Friends are honoured to have Johanna make this very personal presentation.
Those attending will have the opportunity to purchase Johanna’s wonderful book “Enemy Under Our Roof”, for $30 (cash only).
