“The Tin Hats”
When we think of soldiers during the Second World War, we think of combat troops. Soldiers, in fact, took on many roles in support of the war effort. This is the story of a different type of soldier. The Canadian Military, recognizing the need to raise and maintain the morale of its soldiers, formed soldier-led entertainment units. Their job was to entertain the troops wherever they might be. These all-male concert parties accompanied the Allied troops right up to the front lines.
Ruth Stanley is the daughter of a “Tin Hat”. She has written A Different Type of Bombshell and Ballads, Bombshells and Brotherhood. Researching for her books, she has gotten to know some of the extended families of the members of The Tin Hats, and they have become dear friends who have accompanied her on her voyage of discovery.
