Projects & Programs
These are the Projects and Programs at the Canadian War Museum that the Friends directly support through your Donations and our Volunteer Program.
Museum Programs
The Friends of the Canadian War Museum have raised millions of dollars over the years to support the Canadian War Museum. In 2019–2020 the Friends contributed $100,000 to support educational programs and a diverse range of Museum projects all dedicated to educating the next generation about our military heritage.
Personal Treasures
The Personal Treasures Project is designed to allow Friends and the general public to view and display various items of militaria – stories and photographs that evoke memories of an individual’s own military past or that of a family or friend. To contribute, please send an electronic version of a photograph of the person, event or artifact to be displayed along with a brief description of 500 words or less to treasures@friends-amis.org.
Adopt-a-Book Program
Each year, at the end of January, the Military History Research Centre of the Canadian War Museum provides the Friends charity with a list of titles they wish to acquire for enhancing the Centre’s research capability but are beyond its budget allocation resources.
Book Room
Our Military History Used Book Room, a permanent presence in the Museum, raises funds, provides a valuable source of creditable military history books and serves as a welcoming ambassador for visitors from across Canada and abroad.
Friends Forums
Friends Forums are a continuing series of informal events to inform Friends and guests on topics of relevant interest.
