35th Anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall

Guest Speaker – Urs Obrist.

The fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 was a pivotal moment in the 20th century. From its construction in 1961 until the wall crumbled with the onslaught of the collapse of the former Soviet Empire, the Berlin Wall represented repression and the denial of basic human rights.

Guest speaker, Urs Obrist, will begin his presentation with the origins of the Wall and its significance, both from a global perspective and its personal and local consequences to the dramatic months of August to September 1989, when Europe was once again unified.

As Urs will illustrate, the heady days of late 1989 brought much celebration and joy, but German unification had reverberations that are still felt today.
