One hundred years ago, the history of Canada’s medical services in the First World War was published. Medical services during the war had been challenged by several controversies. Although the single authored history added to the controversy, it has remained the reference text. Its author, Sir Andrew MacPhail, was the leading figure in medical journalism in Canada. The history was published as the first volume of the “Official History of the
Canadian Forces in the Great War 1914-19. “The next volume would not appear for another 13 years.
LCol McAlister (Retd) will review MacPhail’s history, in the context of medical services today, on the centenary of its publication.
