Artifact W2-15: Nursing Sister Served as Model for Canadian Volunteer Service Medal

For her service N/S Lowe was awarded the Associate of the Royal Red Cross, Second Class – RCAMC – per Canada Gazette dated 15 June 1946. She returned to Reserve Status on 26 June 1946. Subsequently she was asked to serve as the model for the Nursing Service figure on the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal. After the war Ethel Lowe returned to Lindsay and enjoyed a long career as the Public Health Nurse for Lindsay and District. She died at Lindsay on 18 May 2006. In addition to close friends, several members of the community who remembered her public health nurse role attended her funeral.
